Approved courses for study leave with pay for the year 2023

When a teacher with a diploma wants to continue their education in a regular mode, they are entitled to study leave with salary.

In this situation, the teacher must decide whether to pursue a subject area programme, or specialisation, which is also a four-year programme, or continue the course that is offered at the diploma level. This course is called post-diploma in basic education and is offered in this case.

Prior to being awarded a study leave with pay, one must work for a certain number of years depending on whether they are in an urban or rural location. For rural communities, one must work for a minimum of three years, and for urban communities one has to serve a minimum of four (4) years.

The programmes offered by the Ghana Education Service vary from year to year. The last two years, Information Communications Technology (ICT) was one of the courses that qualified students for study leave, but it has since been removed for reasons that they alone know.
