GES Savannah Region Sets Date for Training SISOs on 2025 Insecticide-Treated Nets Distribution to Learners

The Savannah Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially announced a one-day in-person training for all School Improvement Support Officers (SISOs) within the region.

The exercise forms part of preparations toward the 2025 nationwide distribution of free Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITNs) to basic school learners.

In a circular dated 5th May 2025, the Regional Director of Education, Hajia Katumi Natogmah Attah, informed all Municipal and District Directors of Education of the training schedule, following an earlier virtual orientation session involving District Directors and Regional School Health Education Programme (SHEP) Coordinators.

The training is expected to equip SISOs with the necessary knowledge and practical skills on the proper use, care, and systematic distribution of mosquito nets to learners. This year’s distribution targets all pupils in Primary 2 and Primary 6 in both public and private basic schools across the region.

According to the schedule, the training will be held in two cohorts:

Cohort A includes SISOs from East Gonja, North East Gonja, and Central Gonja. Their training is scheduled for 7th May 2025 at TAMASCO, Tamale (Northern Region), starting at 9:00 AM.

Cohort B comprises officers from Bole, Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, West Gonja, and North Gonja. They will gather on 8th May 2025 at the Municipal Health Directorate in Damongo (Savannah Region), also at 9:00 AM.

Municipal and District Directors have been urged to release all SISOs under their jurisdictions to attend the training without fail. The Regional Directorate emphasized the importance of the exercise, which aims to enhance the health and well-being of schoolchildren by reducing malaria infections through the widespread use of ITNs.

GES Savannah Region counts on the maximum cooperation and support of all stakeholders to ensure a successful rollout of this important health intervention in schools.
