Techaide Launch “ASANKA” platform for Teachers and students

In a significant stride towards improving education in Ghana, Techaide, a Ghanaian-based social enterprise, has unveiled its upgraded offline learning platform, “ASANKA,” aimed at transforming the educational landscape for both teachers and students, especially in underserved rural areas.

A Digital Solution for All Learners

“ASANKA,” an acronym for “All Subjects and New Knowledge Access,” is designed to bridge the education gap by providing students with a comprehensive range of educational resources, including lessons, videos, and interactive exercises—without the need for internet connectivity. This groundbreaking platform currently supports core subjects such as Mathematics, English, and Science, tailored for basic education levels from Class One to Junior High School (JHS) Three. Plans are already in place to extend coverage to Senior High School levels in the near future.

Techaide’s offline learning solution addresses a significant barrier in Ghanaian education—access to reliable internet connectivity. With internet penetration still a challenge in many parts of the country, particularly in rural areas, ASANKA provides an innovative alternative. By offering educational content without requiring an internet connection, the platform ensures that students in even the most remote areas can access high-quality learning materials.

Features Tailored to the Ghanaian Curriculum and Beyond

Aligned with the Ghana Education Service (GES) curriculum, ASANKA ensures that the content is relevant to students’ grade levels, making it a reliable resource for both teachers and students. The platform’s key features include offline access, curriculum-aligned content, multi-language support, tracking and monitoring tools, an intuitive user interface, and energy-efficient operation, all designed to maximize learning opportunities even in resource-constrained environments.

Moreover, ASANKA is available at no cost to individual users, while schools can access the platform for a minimal subscription fee. The platform is versatile, suitable for private use at home and for school-based learning, making it an invaluable tool for both formal and informal educational settings.

A Vision for National and Pan-African Impact

During the official launch, Kafui Prebbie, the Chief Executive Officer of Techaide, emphasized the platform’s potential to revolutionize learning, particularly for students who face challenges accessing online resources due to high internet costs and limited connectivity. He explained that ASANKA aims to cater to the 30 percent of Ghanaians who lack internet access, thus leveling the playing field for educational opportunities.

Prebbie also outlined Techaide’s ambitious vision for ASANKA’s expansion beyond Ghana’s borders. “Already, the platform is being introduced in countries such as Gambia, Sierra Leone, and Liberia,” he shared. This expansion will enable the platform to make a substantial impact across the African continent, contributing to the digital transformation of education in developing nations.

Empowering Students for Success

Techaide’s goal with ASANKA is clear: to provide quality educational tools that reduce learning gaps and empower students to reach their full potential. To further enhance the platform’s effectiveness, Prebbie announced upcoming features set to launch in March 2025, including pre-tests, STEM tools, and self-study exercises. These additions will help students prepare for exams and learn independently, fostering a more personalized and effective learning experience.

Prebbie urged schools, parents, and organizations to embrace the platform, stressing the importance of access to educational resources. “Education is a right, not a privilege,” he declared. “Tools like ASANKA are essential to making that right a reality for every student, regardless of their location or socioeconomic background.”

Endorsement from Education Leaders

The launch of ASANKA also garnered praise from education experts. Nana Gyamfi Adwabour, Executive Director of the Centre for National Distance Learning and Open Schooling (CENDLOS), commended Techaide for its alignment of educational content with the national curriculum. He emphasized that such efforts ensure the relevance and standardization of educational tools across the country.

Adwabour also highlighted the importance of policy in the growth of EdTech in Ghana. “We are committed to developing a comprehensive EdTech policy,” he said, “one that goes beyond the broad framework of Information Communication Technology (ICT) to focus on targeted assessments, research, and measurable outcomes.”

A Bright Future for ASANKA

The launch of ASANKA represents a significant step toward revolutionizing education in Ghana and across Africa. As Techaide continues to innovate and expand the platform, it promises to empower students, reduce educational inequalities, and help shape a brighter future for the next generation of learners. Through ASANKA, the dream of quality, accessible education for all is becoming more attainable every day.
