Teachers’ union strike continues, leaving learners stranded, and disrupting academic activities

Learners are suffering greatly as a result of the three teacher unions’ protracted strike, which is preventing them from receiving the essential teaching and assistance they need to succeed academically.

There was a conspicuous lack of teachers at several schools in the Central Gonja District on Monday, when our team visited them. The only teachers in attendance were headteachers, who supervised the pupils for a short while before dismissing them.

While the headteachers did not make official statements, they did voice serious worries about how the strike might negatively affect schoolwork.

They also observed a sharp drop in learner attendance, with some learners even departing the school grounds early.

On Wednesday, March 20, 2024, the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) launched a statewide strike in protest of their current working circumstances.

The three teacher unions are continuing their strike in defiance of the National Labor Commission’s order to stop.
