GES Opens Applications for Promotion to Director II and Director I Ranks
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has opened applications for suitably qualified serving officers and teachers seeking promotion to the ranks of Director II and Director I.
According to a letter dated 18 August 2026 and signed by the GES Director-General, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, the promotion exercise is being conducted in accordance with the President’s directive on decoupling positions from ranks and the new Scheme of Service for the Ghana Education Service.
The Service said eligible officers and teachers will be considered based on their eligibility requirements, professionalism, competence, performance, experience and successful completion of the prescribed assessment process.
Requirements for Promotion to Director II
Applicants seeking promotion to the rank of Director II must meet the following requirements:
- Be a serving professional teacher of the Ghana Education Service.
- Be on the rank of Deputy Director and have served on the rank for at least four years.
- Have a satisfactory work history, proven performance and exemplary conduct.
- Possess the requisite academic and professional qualifications. A minimum of a Master’s degree in Education, Management, Administration, Social Science or another relevant discipline is required.
- Have a satisfactory Staff Performance Appraisal Report covering 2025, with an average PASS score of 70%.
- Pass the aptitude test conducted by the Ghana Education Service.
- Pass a selection interview conducted by the Public Services Commission in consultation with the Ghana Education Service Council.
Requirements for Promotion to Director I
For promotion to the rank of Director I, applicants must:
- Have a minimum of four years and above on the grade of Director II.
- Have a satisfactory work history, proven performance and exemplary conduct.
- Have a satisfactory Staff Performance Appraisal Report covering 2025, with an average PASS score of 70%.
- Pass the aptitude test conducted by the Ghana Education Service.
- Pass a selection interview conducted by the Public Services Commission in consultation with the Ghana Education Service Council.

How to Apply
Eligible officers are required to complete the online application form through the designated application link or by scanning the QR code provided in the official GES notice.

Applicants are required to upload a recent passport-sized photograph, as well as their last promotion letter or appointment letter to their current grade, as applicable.
The GES further stated that all uploaded documents must be in PDF format, with the exception of the passport-sized photograph.
Application Deadline
The application window opens on 19 August 2026 and closes on 2 September 2026.
Eligible GES officers who intend to apply are therefore encouraged to complete their applications and upload the required documents before the deadline.
The promotion exercise forms part of the Service’s implementation of its new Scheme of Service and the policy direction to decouple positions from ranks.
