GES Opens 2026 Promotion Applications for Deputy Director, Assistant Director and Principal Superintendent

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has opened applications for suitably qualified serving teachers and officers seeking promotion to the ranks of Deputy Director, Assistant Director I, Assistant Director II and Principal Superintendent.

The announcement was contained in a letter dated 18 August 2026 and signed by the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis.

The promotion exercise is open to eligible officers and teachers who meet the specified qualification and service requirements.

Requirements for Promotion

Deputy Director

To qualify for promotion to the rank of Deputy Director, an applicant must have:

  • Been promoted to the rank of Assistant Director I on or before 2022.
  • Been continuously at post since the date of promotion, except for periods of approved leave of absence.

Assistant Director I

Applicants seeking promotion to Assistant Director I must:

  • Have been promoted to the rank of Assistant Director II on or before 2022.
  • Have been continuously at post since the date of promotion, except for periods of approved leave of absence.

Assistant Director II

For promotion to Assistant Director II, an applicant must:

  • Have been promoted to the rank of Principal Superintendent on or before 2022.
  • Have been continuously at post since the date of promotion, except for periods of approved leave of absence.

Principal Superintendent

Applicants seeking promotion to Principal Superintendent must:

  • Have been promoted to the rank of Senior Superintendent I on or before 2022.
  • Have been continuously at post since the date of promotion, except for periods of approved leave of absence.
  • Applicants who have obtained an approved undergraduate degree may apply for upgrading to be placed on the rank.

Requirements for Officers and Teachers With Master’s or PhD Degrees

The GES has also outlined specific conditions for applicants who intend to rely on Master’s or Doctorate degrees to join the interviews out of turn.

According to the notice:

  1. The Master’s or PhD programme must be on the approved GES course of study.
  2. The Master’s or PhD certificate must not have been obtained before the applicant’s previous promotion.
  3. Applicants who intend to use a Master’s or PhD certificate for Assistant Director I, Assistant Director II and Deputy Director promotion should have obtained their certificates in or before 2023.

How to Apply for the GES Promotion Exercise

Eligible applicants are required to complete the application form online through the designated GES promotion application platform.

Applicants may also access the application form by scanning the QR code provided in the official notice.

Documents Required

Applicants are required to upload the following documents:

  • A recent passport-sized photograph in JPEG, JPG or PNG format.
  • Last promotion letter or appointment/upgrading letter.
  • Highest academic certificate used for applying for the promotion.

The GES stated that all uploaded documents must be in PDF format, except for the passport-sized photograph. Documents must also be clear and legible.

Application Deadline

The application window opens on Tuesday, 19 August 2026, and closes on Tuesday, 2 September 2026.

Eligible teachers and officers are therefore encouraged to complete their applications and upload the required documents before the deadline.

The promotion exercise provides an opportunity for qualified GES personnel to progress to higher professional ranks in line with the Service’s promotion and upgrading requirements.
