Fire Guts Female Students’ Dormitory at Nursing Training College; One Injured

A fire outbreak has destroyed two dormitory rooms housing female students at a nursing training college, leaving one student injured and causing extensive damage to personal belongings and school property.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. GMT on Friday, June 13, 2026, and affected two dormitories located on the top floor of a students’ hostel. The rooms were occupied by about 20 female nursing trainee students.

According to reports, personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly after receiving a distress call. Firefighters arrived at the scene at about 9:37 a.m. and immediately began efforts to contain the blaze.

Their prompt intervention helped prevent the fire from spreading to other sections of the building. The blaze was eventually brought under control and fully extinguished by 10:25 a.m.

Despite the quick response, the fire caused significant destruction. Students reportedly lost personal belongings, including clothing, learning materials, electronic devices, and other valuables. School property was also damaged, with preliminary estimates suggesting losses running into hundreds of thousands of cedis.

Items inside the affected rooms were said to have been burnt beyond recognition.

One female student sustained burn injuries during the incident and is currently receiving treatment at the emergency unit of Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital.

Authorities have not yet established the cause of the fire. Investigations are currently underway to determine what triggered the outbreak.

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has confirmed the incident. Speaking on the matter, the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Director of NADMO, Alhaji Abubakar Kamal, described the situation as unfortunate and indicated that assessments were ongoing to determine the full extent of the damage and the support required for the affected students.

Officials have assured the public that a comprehensive investigation will be conducted to establish the cause of the fire and recommend measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Meanwhile, affected students are expected to receive assistance as authorities continue to assess the situation and coordinate relief efforts.
