Dr. Eric Nkansah Relieved of His Duties as Director-General of GES

The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr. Eric Nkansah, has been relieved of his duties, according to sources within the government as reported by 3news.com.

Dr. Nkansah, who assumed office in January 2023, brought a diverse professional background to the role. He began his career in education, serving as a subject teacher at Christian Education Complex Junior High School and Kintampo Senior High School between 2000 and 2006.

In 2007, he transitioned into the banking sector, joining Barclays Bank (now Absa), where he rose to the rank of Sales Manager over a six-year period. Simultaneously, he pursued a part-time lecturing position at the Business School of Garden City University College in Kumasi from 2010.

In his place, the government has appointed Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, the Provost of the College of Education at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), as the new Director-General of GES. Prof. Davis brings extensive academic and administrative experience to the position and is anticipated to provide fresh leadership to Ghana’s education sector.

This leadership change comes as the government seeks to realign the GES to better tackle key challenges and introduce innovative reforms aimed at improving the country’s education system.

Prof. Davis’ appointment signals a renewed commitment to addressing pressing issues within the sector and positioning education as a cornerstone of national development.

Prof. Davis holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, and a Master of Arts in Mathematics Education from Hiroshima University in Japan. He graduated from UCC in 1999 with a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Mathematics.

His academic journey has been marked by several prestigious accolades, including the Monash Graduate Scholarship (MGS) in 2007, the British Academy Visiting Scholar Award in 2011, and the Inter-Departmental Research Support Grant from UCC’s Directorate of Research and Innovation Consultancy (DRIC).
