Teacher arrested for fraud and impersonating mp

A teacher named Bless Agbenyenu is taken into custody by the Jasikan Municipal Police Command in the Oti Region for reportedly posing as Mr. Yao Gomado, the MP for the Akan Constituency.

After being taken into custody on Monday, January 15, the suspect allegedly made a Facebook page and gave it the legislator’s name.

When contacted by the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr. Emmanuel Klu, the MP’s personal assistant, stated that five victims had written their witness testimonies.

He said that on Tuesday, January 16, more victims from the Asato and Dodo-Aman communities in the Kadjebi District would come to the police station to make their statements.

The Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Akan Constituency, Mr Musah Mohammed, signed a press release stating that the impersonation scheme entailed the unlawful use of Mr Gomado’s identity on social media, particularly Facebook.

“The imposter exploited this false identity to engage in deceitful activities, causing harm and potential financial loss to unsuspecting individuals,” it said.

“Local authorities are urging anyone who may have fallen victim to this fraudulent scheme to come forward and report their experiences to the Police.”

The press statement served as a reminder to the public to use caution and to confirm the legitimacy of online contacts, particularly while handling sensitive financial transaction matters.
