Primary School Teacher Calls on GES and NAGRAT to Crack Down on Teacher–Student Sexual Misconduct in Schools

A primary school teacher has called on the Ghana Education Service (Ghana Education Service), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (National Association of Graduate Teachers), and other relevant authorities to take immediate and decisive action to curb incidents of male teachers engaging in sexual relationships with students, particularly in senior high schools.

She expressed deep concern that such incidents, if left unchecked, risk undermining the integrity of the teaching profession and exposing vulnerable students especially young girls to exploitation and long-term emotional harm.

According to her, many students are innocent and often find themselves influenced or manipulated due to the authority and trust placed in teachers. She warned that the growing trend requires urgent institutional intervention, stronger safeguarding policies, and strict enforcement of professional ethical standards in schools.

Her comments come in the wake of a disturbing incident reported at Bole Senior High School, where a teacher was allegedly seen in a viral video engaging in sexual misconduct with a final-year student. The incident has sparked widespread public outrage and renewed calls for stronger oversight of teacher-student relationships across senior high schools in Ghana.

Education stakeholders and members of the public are urging the Ghana Education Service and allied bodies to tighten disciplinary measures, improve safeguarding systems, and ensure swift investigation and punishment of offenders in order to restore public confidence in the education sector.

The controversy has also reignited national discussions on student protection, teacher ethics, and the need for comprehensive safeguarding education within schools.
