How to Update All Outdated Software on Your Windows PC or Laptop in Seconds

Keeping your computer software up to date is essential for security, performance, and access to the latest features. While many users update applications one by one, Windows provides a faster method that can update multiple programs from a single command.

Update All Software Using Command Prompt

If you have a Windows PC or laptop, you can use the Windows Package Manager (Winget) to check for and install software updates quickly.

Step 1: Open Command Prompt as Administrator

  • Click on the Windows Search bar.
  • Type CMD or Command Prompt.
  • Right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.

Step 2: Check for Available Updates

Ensure your computer is connected to the internet, then type the following command and press Enter:

winget upgrade

This command will display a list of installed applications that have available updates.

Step 3: Update All Outdated Software

To automatically update all supported applications on your PC, type:

winget upgrade --all

Press Enter, and Windows will begin downloading and installing updates for all eligible software on your system.

Why You Should Keep Software Updated

Regular software updates help to:

  • Improve system security
  • Fix bugs and software issues
  • Enhance performance
  • Add new features and improvements
  • Reduce compatibility problems

Using Winget can save time by updating multiple applications at once instead of checking each program individually.

If you have never tried this method before, give it a try and keep your Windows PC running smoothly with the latest software updates.
