GES Declares Thursday, May 14, 2026 as Holiday

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has granted approval for all Presbyterian Church schools and offices under its Education Unit to observe a special holiday in recognition of Ascension Day 2026.

This was contained in an official letter dated May 12, 2026, and signed by Prof. Smile Dzisi (Mrs.), the Acting Deputy Director-General (MS) for the Director-General of GES.

According to the statement, the special holiday will be observed on Thursday, May 14, 2026, following a request from the General Manager of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.

The directive was addressed to all Regional Directors of Education with instructions to communicate the information to Metro, Municipal, and District Directors, as well as heads of Presbyterian Church schools and offices across the country.

GES stated that the decision was taken to allow Presbyterian Church schools and offices to commemorate Ascension Day 2026 appropriately.

The letter further urged all relevant authorities to ensure the information is shared with affected institutions for compliance.

Ascension Day is a significant event on the Christian calendar, marking the ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven, observed 40 days after Easter.
