GES Approves Catholic Days of Obligation for 2025

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially approved the observance of three Catholic Days of Obligation for the 2025 academic year across Catholic Basic and Second Cycle institutions as well as offices. This directive, communicated in a letter dated 15th May, 2025, follows a request submitted by the Catholic Education Unit earlier this month.

According to the statement signed by Mr. Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instructions Division at GES Headquarters on behalf of the Ag. Director-General, the approved Catholic Days of Obligation for 2025 are as follows:

  • Thursday, 29th May 2025 – Ascension Day
  • Friday, 15th August 2025 – Assumption Day
  • Saturday, 1st November 2025 – All Saints’ Day

These dates are significant celebrations within the Catholic Church and are observed as solemnities or feast days. The GES acknowledges their importance and has granted permission for Catholic institutions to recognize them accordingly.

The directive has been sent to all Regional Directors of Education, with a request to disseminate the information to the heads of Catholic educational institutions under their jurisdictions. This move is in alignment with GES’s commitment to respecting the religious calendar and practices of faith-based institutions under its oversight.

The circular was also copied to key officials including the Chairman of the GES Council, various Deputy Directors-General, and the General Manager/Director of the Catholic Education Unit in Accra.

This approval reinforces the partnership between the GES and faith-based institutions in promoting holistic education that respects cultural and religious values.
