The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has cautioned the general public to vaccinate their children against Polio. In a flyer released by the Ghana Health Service, it read, “There is no cure for polio, the only way to protect your child against polio is to vaccinate them with the multiple doses of the vaccine.”
Polio is a virus that may cause paralysis and is easily preventable by the polio vaccine.
Polio is transmitted through contaminated water or food, or contact with an infected person.
Polio infection does not make one sick and has no symptoms, but it can leave one paralyzed which can be lethal.
Infected people are likely to experience fatigue, feeling faint, fever, or wasting away accompanied with muscle weakness, loss of muscle, muscle quiver, headache, nausea, or stunted growth.
Children from 2 months old, 4 months old, 6 through 18 months old, and 4 through 6 years old are advised to get one dose at these ages.
