Teacher Granted GH¢30,000 Bail Over Alleged Assault of SHS Student in Ashanti Region
A 33-year-old teacher, Charles Gyamfi, has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢30,000 by the Nsuta Circuit Court in the Sekyere Central District of the Ashanti Region after pleading not guilty to charges of assault involving a senior high school student.
The court, presided over by His Lordship Simon Nketiah Gagah on Friday, May 8, 2026, ordered that the accused provide two sureties, with one required to be a government worker earning not less than GH¢3,000 monthly.
According to the prosecution, led by Detective Chief Inspector Peter Kantoreje, the complainant in the case is Mustapha Asante, the Senior House Master of Amaniampong Senior High School at Asante Mampong. The accused, Charles Gyamfi, is also a House Master at the same school, specifically in charge of Asenso House.
The prosecution told the court that the alleged incident occurred on May 2, 2026, at about 1:30 a.m. and involved Emmanuel Kwarteng, a Form Three student of the school.
The student reportedly sustained injuries to his left eye and left knee and was rushed to the Mampong Government Hospital for treatment. He was later discharged on the same day.
Police investigations revealed that the accused teacher was invited by the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (RCID) to assist with investigations into the matter.
Later that day, the victim and his father, Tony Kwarteng, also reported to the RCID, where a statement was taken and a police medical report form issued.
On May 6, 2026, the victim’s father submitted the endorsed medical report from the Mampong Government Hospital to investigators.
Medical findings presented to the court indicated that the student suffered contusions and bruises but remained in stable condition. X-ray examinations conducted by UNILAB on the student’s head, chest, and knee reportedly showed no serious injuries, with all results appearing normal.
The prosecution further explained that the accused teacher had been carrying out routine dormitory supervision duties on the night of the incident to enforce discipline and ensure compliance with school regulations.
According to investigators, the teacher allegedly found the student using a mobile phone in the dormitory during late hours and attempted to confiscate the device.
During the process, the student allegedly pushed the teacher to the ground and attempted to flee. The prosecution added that some students at the scene booed the teacher, prompting him to chase the student outside the dormitory.
The two reportedly wrestled to the ground, after which the accused allegedly assaulted the student out of provocation.
The court has directed the prosecution to file witness statements ahead of the trial. The case has been adjourned to May 22, 2026, for further proceedings.
