Are you sick and weary of getting texts about loans that you didn’t ask for? The good news is that “DO NOT DISTURB”, a free service offered by MTN Ghana, now lets you block unsolicited text messages from any shortcode, phone number, or alphanumeric sender id. As an MTN client, you have control over who contacts you by SMS and this feature is simple to use. Similar services will soon be made available for the networks of Vodafone, AirtelTigo, Glo, and other companies.

You can prevent loan text messages on your phone by following these instructions:

How to Stop SMS Messages from a Certain Phone Number

  • Text the sender’s name or phone number, followed by a space, in a message that starts with the word BLOCK.
  • Use the shortcode 1309 to send the message.
  • If successful, you will get a notice stating that the number or sender name has been effectively banned.
  • Keep in mind that only messages from the given number will be blocked by this.

How to Stop an Individual or Organization from Sending You Texts

  • Text the sender’s name you want to block after placing a space after the word “BLOCK” in the message.
  • Use the shortcode 1309 to send the message.
  • If successful, you will get a notification stating that the sender’s name has been effectively banned.
  • Keep in mind that only communications from the sender’s name selected will be blocked by this.

How to Stop All Loan Texts on Your Phone

  • Use the shortcode 1309 to send the message “Block E-loans.”
  • A notification verifying that you have successfully blacklisted all loan text messages will be sent to you if you are successful.

  • Send “Check” to 1309 to see the list of blacklisted contacts.

  • Make sure you are using the company’s name or phone number exactly as it appears in the text message’s title.
  • To locate the Company’s precise phone number, use the “Advanced” options section of the SMS message.

Alternative Techniques for Blocking Loan Messages

  • Phone blocking settings: To block a message on the majority of smartphones, hit the three dots in the message’s upper right corner, then select Spam and Block.
  • With the Truecaller mobile app, users can identify and block unknown callers. To view messages from all telecom operators, open Truecaller and select the spam tab. To block a message, hold down on it while pressing and holding the Block button.
