Ghanaians are to pay for the SIM re-registration exercise after date extension
Mrs. Ursula Owusu Ekuful who is the Minister for Communication and Digitalization on Sunday July 31, 2022, announced that the deadline for the SIM card re-registration has been protracted.
In congruence with this, the date for the extension is September 30, 2022.
The government appointee said she “reluctantly” extended the exercise which was scheduled to windup on July 31, 2022 when addressing the media on Sunday. The Minister said the extension had become necessary owing to the challenges such as delays in the rollout of a self-serving registration app, as well as delays in the procurement of Ghana cards which is obligatory document for the registration.
The Minister took to her facebook page and highlighted on the SIM registration app which will be ready on both IOS and Android stores which will enable citizens to register at a charge of Ghc5.
She wrote, “The SIM Registration app will be available for download on both android and IOS this week barring any unforeseen circumstances. Each registration via the app will be subject to a 5 cedi surcharge.”
