GES Urged to Act as One Teacher Handles 12 Classes Alone at Kakpeni D/A School for Over Three Years

A worrying situation is unfolding at Kakpeni D/A Primary and JHS in the Kpandai District of the Northern Region, where a single trained teacher has reportedly been managing the entire school for more than three years.

According to residents, Mr. Samuel Donkor, the only trained teacher posted to the school, has been solely responsible for handling 12 classes and teaching over 448 pupils from both the primary and junior high school sections.

The situation has raised serious concerns among community members, who say the school continues to struggle with severe teacher shortages and poor infrastructure, negatively affecting teaching and learning.

Residents explained that despite repeated appeals, the school has not received additional trained teachers to support academic work. As a result, pupils are forced to study under extremely difficult conditions, with one teacher attempting to manage multiple classes at the same time.

Community members described Mr. Donkor’s commitment as extraordinary, praising him for remaining at post and continuing to teach despite the overwhelming workload.

However, they fear the current conditions could affect the quality of education in the area if urgent intervention is not provided.

Beyond the teacher shortage, the community also pointed to infrastructure challenges confronting the school, including inadequate classrooms and limited teaching and learning materials.

Residents are therefore calling on the government, the Ghana Education Service (GES), and other stakeholders to urgently intervene by deploying more teachers to the school and improving facilities to create a better learning environment for pupils.

They believe immediate action will help improve academic performance and ease the burden currently placed on the lone teacher.
