GES Directs Teachers to Discontinue Use of Pre-Prepared Learner Plans
The Ghana Education Service (GES) Central Tongu District Directorate has issued a directive mandating teachers to cease the use of pre-prepared learner plans supplied by external individuals or groups.
The directive, dated January 6, 2025, highlights concerns regarding the impact of such practices on the quality of education and professionalism within the district.
According to the circular signed by Happy Tsokor, District Director for Central Tongu, the reliance on pre-prepared learner plans undermines the core responsibilities of teachers, which include tailoring lesson plans to meet the specific needs and abilities of their students.
The Directorate emphasized that this practice compromises the professional standards of teaching and detracts from the quality of education.
The directive acknowledges the challenges teachers face in lesson preparation but reiterates the importance of self-prepared learner plans in achieving better learning outcomes.

To ensure strict compliance, headteachers are instructed to monitor lesson preparations and inspect weekly self-prepared learner plans. Teachers who continue to use or distribute pre-prepared materials will face disciplinary action.
The circular also encourages teachers to seek support from the District Training Team and School Improvement Support Officers (SISOs) to enhance their lesson preparation skills.
The Directorate reaffirmed its commitment to supporting teachers’ professional growth while upholding the highest standards of professionalism.
This policy shift aims to strengthen the delivery of education in the Central Tongu District by ensuring that lesson plans are reflective of students’ unique needs. Teachers are urged to collaborate with educational stakeholders to maintain the integrity and quality of education.
This development underscores GES’s dedication to fostering a more robust and effective educational system in Ghana.
