GES Announces Call for Entries for the 2025 Samira Bawumia Literature Prize

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially announced the call for entries for the 2025 edition of the prestigious Samira Bawumia Literature Prize. In a circular dated 6th June 2025 and signed by Mr. Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instructions Division, GES has directed all Regional Directors of Education to disseminate this information to Heads of Junior and Senior High Schools across the country.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Project (SEHP), aims to encourage literary creativity among Ghanaian students. The literature prize is one of the flagship educational initiatives of the Second Lady of Ghana, H.E. Hajia Samira Bawumia, designed to nurture writing talents and empower young voices through storytelling.
All Regional Directors should pass on this information to the Heads of all Junior and Senior High Schools. They should encourage interested students to participate. The memo emphasized this.

The GES has urged school authorities to give this announcement the necessary attention and take appropriate action to ensure wide participation. The Samira Bawumia Literature Prize, since its inception, has created a platform for young writers to explore and express their ideas on social issues, culture, identity, and development.
Details regarding the theme, submission guidelines, and deadlines are expected to be provided in the attached letter from SEHP, as referenced in the GES communication.
Copies of the letter have also been sent to the Acting Director-General and other Deputy Director-Generals at GES Headquarters in Accra for their information and further circulation.
The literary competition is gaining momentum. Students, educators, and stakeholders are encouraged to seize the opportunity. They can showcase Ghana’s rich storytelling heritage through the pen of the next generation.
