Alleged Vote Buying: Teachers in Demkyembour District Receive GHS300 from DCE Ahead of NPP Polls
In the run-up to Saturday’s crucial election, allegations of vote-buying have emerged from the Demkyembour District in Akwatia. Reports suggest that teachers were seen queuing to collect GHS300 each, purportedly distributed by the District Chief Executive (DCE). The funds are allegedly intended to sway votes in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The incident, which has sparked widespread debate, raises questions about the ethics of leveraging public officers in political campaigns. Critics argue that using monetary incentives to influence voting undermines democratic principles and compromises the integrity of teachers as impartial public servants.
While the DCE has not officially commented on the allegations, opposition voices within the district have condemned the act, describing it as an abuse of power and state resources. “Our democracy is at stake if such acts continue unchecked. Teachers should not be reduced to political pawns,” said a local political activist.

The education fraternity has also expressed concerns about the implications of this act. Teachers, as custodians of moral and civic education, are expected to uphold neutrality in political matters. This alleged incident not only risks tarnishing the reputation of the profession but could also set a dangerous precedent.
The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and other watchdog groups are being urged to investigate the matter and ensure that the election proceeds free of undue influence. With just a few days to the polls, transparency and adherence to democratic norms remain critical to maintaining public trust in the electoral process.
As the story unfolds, the public awaits clarification from the DCE and other stakeholders involved. For now, the allegations serve as a stark reminder of the need for accountability in Ghana’s political landscape.
