19-year-old volunteer nurse from UK drowns at Busua Beach
Tragic events occurred when Millie Ann Gentry, a 19-year-old student from the UK who was volunteering at a hospital in Ghana, passed away on March 17 last year, barely two weeks into her month-long assignment.
Despite not being able to swim, her friend Miss Byrnes gave a heartbreaking description of how they were swimming when they were suddenly pushed into the water by a wave.
Despite her best efforts to keep Millie afloat and her calls for assistance, she eventually realised that Millie had drowned.

The terrifying experience, which included high waves and currents, lasted for almost fifteen minutes before their volunteer buddy Mr. Mallinson decided to ask for help.
He related the ordeal of his friends’ fight in the water and the difficult decision he had to make to abandon them in order to seek rescue.
It took around thirty minutes for Miss Byrnes to be found following a search, but it took four hours to find Millie’s lifeless body, underscoring the gravity and urgency of the tragedy.
Everyone who knew Millie will always treasure her memory, and her awful loss will be felt deeply by all.
