WhatsApp improves privacy by including a closed conversation secret code function
With the help of a unique password, WhatsApp users may now conceal their closed conversations; thanks to a new feature called Secret Code.
Once it’s on your device, you may set a code—which may include emojis—that’s only for locking down chats that aren’t compatible with your device’s unlock code.
WhatsApp’s Secret Code function is intended to strengthen the security of closed conversations. A key component of the platform’s anonymity is locked chats, which let users secure their discussions with a fingerprint or facial recognition lock. Now that the Secret Code has been introduced, users have an extra way to protect their private messages.
How It Operates
As a substitute for biometric identification, the Secret Code feature serves as a passcode to access closed chats. To further secure their private communications, users can set up a special numerical code. This makes sure that the Secret Code is required to unlock encrypted chats, even in the event that someone manages to get access to the user’s device.

Setting up the Secret Code
- Open WhatsApp
- Navigate to the “Settings” menu within WhatsApp by clicking on the three vertical dots in the top-right or bottom-right corner of the screen.
- Click on “Privacy”
- Find and select the option for “Lock Chats”
- Look for an option related to the Secret Code feature. It might be labeled as “Set Up Secret Code” or a similar phrase.
- The app will prompt you to choose a numerical code for your Secret Code. Select a combination that is secure and memorable for you but not easily guessable by others.
- Confirm your chosen Secret Code by entering it again when prompted.
- Once you have confirmed your Secret Code, you will likely be asked to enable the feature. Toggle the switch or follow the on-screen instructions to activate the Secret Code for your locked chats.
You might be able to combine the Secret Code with biometric authentication (face recognition or fingerprint), depending on your device. This adds another degree of protection.
The messaging app’s reputation is growing thanks to features like the Secret Code function, which helps users feel more secure online. Future advancements in technology are probably in store, with the primary goal being to protect users’ security and privacy online.
