WAEC 8 A’s awardee not in university due to financial constraints

Akosua Adjei Boateng, a West African Examinations Council (WAEC) awardee, is unable to pursue her study at the tertiary level because of financial constraints.

In the 2023 WASSCE, Akosua, an orphan and former pupil of Juaso Senior High Technical School, achieved an A in eight subjects.

When word broke that Akosua was still at home because there weren’t enough money for her to finish her education, the crowd at the National Theatre, where WAEC hosted its Distinction Awards, was taken aback.

Meanwhile, the WAEC had adjudged her the best candidate in the technical programme.

Dr. Eric Nkansah, the Director General of Ghana Education Service, informed the audience shortly after Akosua accepted her monetary reward and certificate of recognition from WAEC that he would handle her education.

Akosua and a few family members were asked to see Dr. Nkansah, a Juaso native, shortly after the program, according to information obtained by the GNA.

The auditorium’s crowd enthusiastically praised Dr. Nkansah’s declaration endorsing Akosua.

Akosua stated to the GNA her goal in life was to become a civil engineer. Akosua’s predicament was brought to light during the Council’s Distinction awards event by Mr. John Kapi, Head of Public Affairs WAEC.

Akosua received good scores in the 2023 WASSCE for School Candidates, but Mr. Kapi stated that despite her grades, Akosua was not enrolled in any postsecondary institution.

According to him, Akosua required assistance in order to pursue her postsecondary studies.
