Tragedy Strikes Lawra SHS as Seven Students Feared Dead in Boat Accident on Black Volta

A devastating tragedy has hit the Lawra Senior High School (SHS) community in the Upper West Region, as seven students are feared dead following a boat accident on the Black Volta River near Dikpe. The heartbreaking incident occurred during what was intended to be a routine morning jogging session.
According to reports, a group of ten students from the school embarked on a morning exercise on the banks of the Black Volta. In an unexpected turn of events, they decided to cross the river into neighbouring Burkina Faso using a boat. Unfortunately, the boat capsized mid-way through the journey, throwing all ten students into the river.

Rescue efforts led to the successful recovery of three students who survived the ordeal. However, seven others remain unaccounted for, and their conditions are still unknown. A joint rescue and search operation involving local authorities, security forces, and divers is ongoing, but the river’s strong currents have made the operation extremely challenging.

The Black Volta River, known for its unpredictable tides and depth, has complicated efforts to locate the missing students, sparking fears that they may have drowned.
