Teachers to embark on industrial strike over the appointment of a new Director-General of GES
The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations as at today, November 3, 2022, has released an official letter with reference number-DA.285/467/01F, signed by the Minister; Honorable Ignatius Baffour Awuah, inviting the Minister for Education and all the Leadership of the Teacher Unions to a meeting on their decision to embark on a strike following the appointment of the new Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
“It has come to the attention of the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR) that the pre-tertiary education sector unions are threatening to embark on industrial action over the appointment of a new Director-General for the Ghana Education Service. Given the long standing relationship between Government and the Union, the Ministry hereby invites the Minister for Education and Leadership of the Unions concerned to a meeting in the conference room of the Ministry on Friday, 4th November, 2022 at 10:00 am to discuss and find amicable resolution to the impasse. By this invitation, the Ministry entreats all stakeholders to exercise restraint whilst the matter is being amicably solved. Many thanks for your usual cooperation.” It said in a statement
