Outrage as Students of Suame Technical Institute Vandalise Baba Yara Stadium After Inter-Schools Games

A wave of public outrage has erupted following the circulation of a video showing students of Suame Technical Institute allegedly vandalising property at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

The incident reportedly occurred immediately after an inter-schools competition held at the stadium. In the viral footage, a group of students is seen throwing stones and other objects at stadium facilities, causing damage and creating panic among bystanders.

The video was captured by a concerned resident, who condemned the conduct of the students, describing it as unacceptable and damaging to public property. The resident expressed worry over the safety risks posed by the actions, particularly to spectators and other students present at the venue.

Baba Yara Stadium, one of Ghana’s most important sporting facilities, hosts major national and international events. Acts of vandalism at the facility have therefore sparked strong criticism from the public, with many calling for disciplinary action and restitution.

On social media, several users have questioned the level of supervision during the competition, urging school authorities, organisers, and security agencies to strengthen control at inter-school sporting events to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Education stakeholders have also emphasized the need for schools to reinforce discipline, sportsmanship, and civic responsibility among students, noting that sporting competitions are meant to promote unity and healthy rivalry, not violence or destruction of state property.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the management of Suame Technical Institute nor the relevant education and sports authorities have issued an official statement on the incident. Many Ghanaians, however, are demanding swift investigations and appropriate sanctions to deter future misconduct.
