Neymar’s Return to Barcelona? A Bad Joke That Should Never Happen

Lately, rumors have been swirling about the possibility of Neymar returning to Barcelona. As a devoted fan, I can only hope this is nothing more than a bad joke. The idea of his return is not only impractical but also an insult to the club and its supporters.
A Legacy of Betrayal
Neymar’s time at Barcelona was marked by extraordinary talent, but also by behavior that showed a lack of commitment to the club. Who can forget how he deliberately picked up a fifth yellow card just to get time off and fly to Brazil for his sister’s birthday? This was not the conduct of a player dedicated to the team’s success.
Worse still, Neymar’s departure from Barcelona in 2017 was not just about seeking a new challenge. It was a calculated betrayal. Despite publicly idolizing Lionel Messi and claiming he joined the club to play alongside him, Neymar left to escape Messi’s shadow. He wanted to be the main star, chase individual accolades, and win the Ballon d’Or.
A Deceptive Exit
By June 2017, Neymar had already made up his mind to join Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). He had negotiated his move and agreed to everything with the French club. Yet, he still traveled with Barcelona for their U.S. preseason tour that year for one reason: money. Specifically, he wanted to secure the second installment of his renewal bonus, scheduled for payment on July 31.

He deceived Barcelona’s management, his teammates, the media, and, most importantly, the fans. When the club rightfully refused to pay him the bonus, Neymar took them to court. Barcelona initially won the case, but Neymar appealed, dragging the club into a legal mess. Meanwhile, tax authorities also demanded that he return money due to various tax-related rulings, further complicating matters.
Does Neymar Deserve a Second Chance?
After everything, does anyone truly believe Neymar deserves a return to Barcelona? The club is in a rebuilding phase, focusing on young, committed players who genuinely respect the badge. Bringing Neymar back would not only be a step backward but a betrayal of the club’s values and the fans who felt let down by his actions.
Barcelona should look to the future, not revisit a past filled with broken trust. If this rumor is anything more than speculation, the club must put an end to it immediately. Neymar had his time at Barcelona, and he threw it away. There should be no second chances.
