Man Demands GH¢150K Refund From Teacher Trainee Ex-Girlfriend After Breakup

A young Ghanaian man has taken his former girlfriend, a newly graduated teacher trainee, and her mother before the popular courtroom-style radio programme, Oyerepa Afutuo, demanding a refund of nearly GH¢150,000 he claims to have spent during their relationship.
According to the man, he financially supported the lady throughout her years in teacher training college, only for her to allegedly end the relationship unexpectedly after graduation.

Speaking during the programme, the complainant detailed several expenses he said he incurred while supporting the woman and her family. He claimed to have paid GH¢9,000 towards her teacher training college fees from Level 200 to Level 400.
He further alleged that he provided monthly upkeep money of GH¢2,000, which he said amounted to GH¢64,000 over the course of their relationship. In addition, he claimed to have spent GH¢5,000 on examination-related expenses and another GH¢8,000 to support the woman’s mother during difficult periods.

The aggrieved man argued that his investments were made with the hope of building a future together, but he was left heartbroken after the lady allegedly decided to end the relationship without warning shortly after completing school.
The case has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Ghanaians divided over whether financial support given in a relationship should be refunded after a breakup.

While some sympathised with the young man and described his actions as understandable due to the amount involved, others argued that support offered during a romantic relationship should not be treated as a loan unless there was a prior agreement.
The woman and her mother are yet to publicly respond in detail to the allegations and the demand for repayment.
Oyerepa Afutuo, known for handling domestic and relationship disputes on radio, continues to attract public attention with emotionally charged cases involving couples, families, and financial disagreements.
