KNUST Final-Year Agric Biotech Student Dies in Galamsey Site Accident
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has been struck by a tragic loss as Patrick Mensah, a final-year BSc. Agricultural Biotechnology student, passed away just days after completing his final semester exams.
The 24-year-old, who was on the verge of embarking on the next chapter of his life, tragically lost his life in an unexpected and heartbreaking accident.
According to his uncle, Patrick returned home to Manso on Monday evening after finishing his exams. On Tuesday, he decided to visit a friend at a galamsey (illegal mining) site in Manso, a visit that would ultimately lead to his untimely demise. While there, a gentleman fell into a mining pit, prompting Patrick to leap into action in an attempt to rescue him. In a tragic turn of events, Patrick himself fell into the pit and was unable to make it out alive.

The news of Patrick’s death has left his family, friends, and the entire university community in shock and mourning. He was a bright and ambitious young man who had just completed the rigorous demands of his academic program, with a future that held great promise.
