iPhone 16 Launches in 2 Months: Discover 9 Exciting Features to Anticipate

There is a lot of discussion regarding the future smartphones’ physical features with less than two months till Apple releases the iPhone 16 series. Apple has already stated that iOS 18, the operating system that drives the new iPhones, will receive a number of AI-powered goodies, though nothing is confirmed at this time. These amazing features, which include Eye Tracking and ChatGPT integration, are anticipated to be included in the next iPhone.

Some of the features are;

New and improved Siri

Apple’s voice assistant for iOS devices – Siri is also getting some upgrades. The personal assistant will soon be more conversational and understand the query even when if mispronounce words. The company says users will also be able to change Siri’s wake word to whatever they want.

Clean Up Tool

Similar to Google’s Magic Eraser, the Clean Up tool on iOS 18 can identify and help remove objects from the image background. While it is still uncertain if the processing will happen on the device itself or if Apple will process the photo on the cloud, this is really handy if you are someone who often takes photos.

Eye Tracking

Apple is also bringing Eye Tracking feature to the iPhone and iPad, which enables users to control their iOS-powered device using eye movements. The upcoming feature also features several customisation options like a smoothing slider to change the speed of the pointer, Snap to Item and Dwell Control. The feature, which uses the FaceID camera is currently available to those on the beta version of iOS 18. If you are on the latest beta, here’s how to set up and use Eye Tracking.

Smart Script

Available on the iPad, Smart Script is a new feature that automatically refines handwritten notes to make them “fluid, flexible and easier to read” while maintaining your handwriting style. The company says Apple Pencil users will also be able to add space, paste typed text and scratch a sentence to remove it.

Genmoji

Genmoji is an upcoming AI-powered iOS feature that lets you create your very own emoji from scratch. To generate a new emoji, users will have to type a description and you are good to go. Apple says you can also create a Genmoji of friends and family based on their photos and that they can be added inline to messages or shared as a sticker or reaction.

Satellite messaging via iMessage and SMS

While iPhone already lets you send SOS via satellite, the company is now bringing the ability to send messages via satellite service. The upcoming functionality works with both iMessage and SMS. If you use iMessage, you will be able to send and receive messages as usual. However, SMS messages can be sent to any contact, but you will only receive SMS messages from emergency contacts. The functionality will be available for those with iPhone 14 or newer model.

Updated Notes app

While Apple did not give much attention to the Notes app at the WWDC 2024, the company did introduce a lot of new features. With iPhone 16, users will be able to get writing suggestions from the AI powered writing assistant, get audio transcriptions, solve math equations and make collapsible headings and sub headings to name a few.

ChatGPT Integration

At its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC), Apple announced that it will integrate ChatGPT with Siri to “deliver truly helpful intelligence.” With iOS 18, Siri will make use of the on-device Apple Intelligence, but when it comes to answering queries related to photos and documents, offer writing assistance and more, the personal assistant will resort to ChatGPT. Apple says Siri’s ChatGPT integration won’t store user history, offering a more private way of conversing with the AI powered chatbot.

Tap to pay coming to more apps

Earlier this month, Apple said that it will be opening its tap-to-pay functionality to mobile wallet providers in the European Union for 10 years. This means that apps other than Apple Pay will be able to use the iPhone’s NFC chip to make mobile payments in shops and use it for other purposes like unlocking cars and event tickets.
