GES Partners Africa Education Watch to Tackle Teacher Deployment and Exam Malpractice
The Ghana Education Service (GES) on Monday, March 30, 2026, held a comprehensive policy debriefing session with Africa Education Watch as part of ongoing efforts to deepen stakeholder engagement and improve the country’s education system.
The high-level dialogue highlights GES Management’s strong commitment to decentralising education governance while promoting inclusive and participatory decision-making.

It also reflects the Service’s openness to diverse viewpoints, including constructive criticism, evidence-based analysis, and policy-driven recommendations aimed at equipping Ghana’s education sector to meet 21st-century demands.
The Africa Education Watch delegation, led by its Executive Director, Kofi Asare, presented findings from a recent study assessing the performance of the education sector. The report provided a balanced overview, outlining key strengths, persistent challenges, and practical recommendations for improvement.

Among the critical issues raised were teacher rationalisation and equitable deployment, examination malpractice, the effectiveness of the school feeding programme, the management of the capitation grant, and the availability of school infrastructure, particularly desks.

While the study acknowledged progress in certain areas, including the more timely release of capitation grants and the positive impact of the sanitary pad initiative in promoting inclusive education, it also pointed to lingering gaps. Notably, some schools continue to face significant desk shortages, and concerns over examination malpractice remain prevalent issues that require sustained and targeted interventions.

GES Management expressed appreciation for the valuable insights shared by Africa Education Watch and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with civil society organisations. The Service emphasised that such partnerships are essential in addressing systemic challenges and enhancing educational outcomes across the country.

The engagement marks another step in GES’s broader strategy to build a responsive, transparent, and inclusive education system that meets the evolving needs of learners nationwide.
