GES Organizes Nationwide Capacity-Building Workshop for Educational Leaders
The Ghana Education Service (GES) recently organized a two-day Capacity Building Workshop aimed at strengthening the leadership and management skills of all Regional, Deputy Regional, Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directors of Education, as well as General Managers of Educational Units across the country.
The workshop, divided into two cohorts, sought to equip these key educational leaders with innovative skills, best practices, and compliance measures to enhance learning outcomes in schools.
Held in Kumasi and Koforidua, the first cohort, consisting of 157 directors from regions such as Ahafo, Ashanti, Bono, Bono East, Northern, North East, Savannah, Upper East, Upper West, and Western North, participated in the training from October 7 to 8, 2024.
The second cohort, made up of 142 participants from the Central, Eastern, Greater Accra, Oti, Volta, and Western regions, attended the workshop from October 10 to 11, 2024.
In his address, Dr. Eric Nkansah, the Director-General of GES, commended the directors for their unwavering dedication to improving education in the country.
He emphasized the importance of embracing management’s efforts to promote staff development and welfare within the Service, highlighting how these initiatives would translate into better educational outcomes nationwide.

Mr. Stephen Kwaku Owusu, the Deputy Director-General in charge of Management Services, also spoke at the event, noting that the workshop was a strategic move to improve productivity and ensure effective daily operations at all levels of education management.
The workshop featured experienced facilitators from the GES headquarters, who guided participants through various topics critical to educational administration, including legal matters, procurement, guidance and counselling, auditing, and the Ghana Education Service Management Information System (GESMIS).
The Public Financial Management (PFM) Act was also reviewed to ensure compliance with financial regulations in education administration.
Additionally, the Besstel Foundation delivered a presentation on mental health management, underscoring the importance of mental well-being in leadership roles.
Dr. Joseph Cobbinah led an engaging session on “Leadership for Sustainability and Improvement of Learning Outcomes,” while Michael Arku Kelly, representing the Controller and Accountant General’s Department, addressed pertinent payroll issues.
This capacity-building workshop forms part of GES’s ongoing commitment to empowering educational leaders with the tools and knowledge necessary to foster effective governance and enhance the quality of education throughout Ghana.
