GES Announces Free Aftercare Support for TM1 Laptop Users Across Ghana

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced a nationwide school visit programme dubbed KATCARE, aimed at providing technical aftercare support to all TM1 laptop users.
The initiative is being spearheaded by the customer care unit of KA Technologies, the official supplier of the TM1 laptops under the government’s One Teacher, One Laptop policy.
According to a letter signed by Prof. Smile Dzisi, the Ag. Deputy Director-General (Management Services), the exercise commenced in the Greater Accra and Eastern Regions on March 24 and is scheduled to run until April 30, 2025. Dates for other regions will be communicated in due course.
The aftercare support targets all TM1 devices that are still within the two-year warranty period. Under this programme, devices with manufacturer-related faults will be repaired at no cost to users.

However, damages resulting from user negligence—such as broken screens, damaged hinges, or faulty keyboards—will not be covered under the warranty. Users will be responsible for the cost of such repairs and must purchase the necessary replacement parts or accessories.
Regional Directors have been instructed to circulate this information to all teachers, non-teaching staff, and District ICT Coordinators through their respective District, Metro, and Municipal Directors.
The GES emphasized that management counts on the cooperation and support of all stakeholders to ensure the success of the initiative.
This move forms part of efforts to sustain the digital transformation agenda within the education sector and ensure that all beneficiaries of the TM1 project continue to enjoy uninterrupted access to digital teaching and learning tools.
