GES and World Bank Launch Nationwide Survey on STEM/TVET/ICT Education

The Ghana Education Service (GES), in partnership with the World Bank, has initiated a nationwide electronic survey aimed at diagnosing the current state of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) education in the country.

In a circular dated 4th April 2025 and addressed to all Regional Directors of Education, GES announced that this diagnostic study will be key in collecting general information on STEM and ICT education at the Junior High School (JHS) and Senior High School (SHS) levels.

The findings will help shape future strategies and interventions to enhance educational outcomes in these vital subject areas.

According to the circular signed by Dr. Munawaru Issahaque, Acting Deputy Director-General (Q & A), the survey forms part of efforts to improve teaching and learning in STEM and ICT disciplines. Heads of SHS and JHS institutions are expected to fully participate by submitting relevant data through a designated electronic platform.

The circular emphasized that the survey will not collect any personal or sensitive data from either students or staff. It will only gather general educational information to assist policy formulation and resource allocation.

To ensure smooth data collection, the country has been divided into four zones, each with its own dedicated survey links for SHS and JHS levels, details of which were shared in an accompanying attachment.

Regional Directors have been tasked to disseminate the information to school heads and to encourage them to cooperate fully with the exercise. GES believes that the success of this initiative will depend greatly on timely administration and full participation by the targeted schools.

This collaborative effort highlights Ghana’s commitment to strengthening STEM and ICT education through evidence-based decision-making, as the country prepares its learners for the demands of the modern world.
