Current update on the strike action by the teacher unions

A strike by three labor unions involved in pre-tertiary education was declared on March 20, 2024, due to what they claim are unsatisfactory working conditions.

The unions were the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana (CCT-GH), and the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT).

The teacher unions have listed their demands in congruence with the ongoing strike.

Current demands on the table Include:

  1. Continuous Professional Development Allowance (should not be fixed but in percentage of Gross Salary)
  2. Deprive Area Allowance
  3. Assessment Allowance for teachers
  4. Housing/Rent Allowance
  5. Transport/Commuting Allowance
  6. Utility Subsidy Allowance
  7. Duty allowance
  8. Risk allowance

Given the above demands from leadership, teachers need to support their leaders in this very important fight until they hear from them.
