Communications Ministry begins training of 1000 girls in ICT in Northern Region
The training of 1000 girls in the Northern Region in fundamental Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills began on Monday, July 17, 2023 under the direction of the Ministry of Communications and Digitalization (MoCD).
The recipients will receive training in programming, website creation, and cyber security, among other things.
In the Savannah region, 1000 females have already received training. The sixteen Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) were used to choose the females.
The MMDAs are: Yendi, Saboba, Zabzugu, Nanumba South, Nanumba North, Karaga, Tolon, Kumbungu, Savelugu, Tamale, Nanton, Sagnarigu, Kpandai, Gushegu, Tatali, and Nanumba South and North.
The training was a component of the Girls-In-ICT program, which the Ministry is implementing in conjunction with its agencies to close the gender gap in ICT in the nation.
The MoCD’s head of public relations, Naa Korkoi Essah, issued a statement that was copied to Graphic Online stating that the training would be held at several locations throughout the area.
It stated that 100 chosen teachers from different districts had received training to conduct the activity.
In order to inspire and advise the Girls-in-ICT in their future jobs and endeavors, it was further said that the mentorship session that would conclude the five-day training will feature women who are currently employed in the ICT field sharing their personal and professional experiences.

The top 100 girls from the chosen region where the program was held will participate in an open day experience during which they will spend a week touring offices of mobile network operators (MNOs), ICT companies, and a few MoCD agencies in Accra. They will also have the opportunity to network with women working in these fields.
The following accomplishments between 2017 and 2022 are significant to mention, according to the statement.
The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) launched the Girls-In-ICT program in 2012 to build a global environment that empowers and inspires girls and young women to think about pursuing education and professions in the expanding field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).
The program, which aims to provide females between the ages of 9 and 15 (Upper Primary to Junior High School) with knowledge and abilities in fundamental ICT and coding, was adopted by the Ministry of Communications and Digitalization in 2017.
The Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence (KACE) provides training for the program while Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) serves as the technical resource provider.
The National Communications Authority (NCA), American Towers Company (ATC), Ministry of Education, GIZ, and other organizations also support the program.
