Apple Tests ChatGPT-Inspired App Ahead of Major Siri Overhaul in 2026

Apple is reportedly making significant progress on its long-promised overhaul of Siri, with Bloomberg revealing that the company has built a ChatGPT-inspired internal app called Veritas to test new capabilities for its voice assistant.
The app, which is not expected to be released to the public, gives Apple employees a faster way to evaluate Siri’s upgraded functions. Among the new features being trialed are the ability to search through personal data stored on a device—such as emails and messages—and perform actions within apps, like photo editing. Bloomberg notes that Veritas also allows Apple to assess whether a chatbot-style format for Siri adds real value for users.
Apple originally previewed its broader artificial intelligence initiative, Apple Intelligence, at WWDC 2024, promising a smarter and more context-aware Siri. However, the rollout faced multiple delays, including a public setback in March 2025, when the company postponed the release of its upgraded assistant.

The use of Veritas suggests that the Siri project is finally moving into an advanced stage of development. Still, Apple is aiming for a full release only in 2026, according to Bloomberg. The improved Siri will reportedly run on a combination of Apple’s in-house AI models and at least one third-party model. Earlier this year, Apple explored partnerships with OpenAI and Anthropic, but by August, reports indicated that the company was leaning toward a deal with Google.
Apple has long argued that its AI products will stand out by offering a blend of privacy, security, and seamless integration into its devices. While its first wave of Apple Intelligence features fell short of the hype, the upcoming Siri update represents the company’s most ambitious attempt yet to deliver a personal digital assistant that is truly capable of understanding and acting on the context of a user’s life.
If successful, the 2026 release could redefine how Apple customers interact with their devices—and put Siri back in serious competition with the likes of Google Assistant and OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
