After being left unattended for 4 hours, frustrated patient throws urine at gossiping nurses
A patient at the Calcot Dlephu clinic in Tsakane, Ekurhuleni, South Africa, grew so irate on Friday, January 20, 2023 after having to wait for four hours to be seen that he threw pee at nurses who were chatting.
The patient complained while three nurses sat across the table chatting in a video that has gone viral on social media.
He murmured quietly in the background, “It’s 3.30 and we’ve been waiting,” while the nurses ignored him.
However, the patient lost it and aggressively and without remorse sprayed his urine at the nurses.
Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, the MEC for health and wellbeing in Gauteng, described the behaviour as offensive and inhumane.
No matter what grievance the member of the public may have against the health workers, this cannot serve as justification for the attack on them. Nkomo-Ralehoko stated, “It is uncalled for and we strongly condemn this obscene behaviour.
She also asked people to use the existing channels of appeal if they are unhappy with the level of service they receive, such as taking concerns and accusations to the facility manager or quality assurance staff.
