WAEC petitioned to make 2023 BECE and WASSCE results checking free

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has been petitioned by an association called Africa Education Watch (EduWatch) to allow candidates for the West African Senior School Certificate and Basic Education Certificate examinations to verify their results for free.

EduWatch has made an appeal in response to the non-profit organization’s management stating that prospective students who took the BECE and WASSCE for school can get their results by SMS for a set fee of GHC6.00 last year. The retail price for a result checker is currently GHS17.00.

However, EduWatch has encouraged WAEC to make results checking free and not to utilise it as another business to extort money from candidates, calling the current system—in which students purchase results cards to check their results—unfair.
