TTAG Demands Clear Timeline for Recruitment of Trained Teachers

The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) has called on the government to publicly announce a clear and definitive timeline for the recruitment and posting of trained teachers, particularly the 2022 backlog and the 2023 batch.

In a statement issued on January 2 and addressed to the Minister for Education and other relevant authorities, TTAG expressed deep concern over the prolonged uncertainty surrounding the employment of professionally trained teachers who have completed their academic programmes, passed their licensure examinations, and undertaken national service.

According to the Association, despite several follow-up engagements and formal correspondence with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance, the government has yet to publicly communicate a recruitment and posting timeline for the affected graduates. TTAG said the lack of clear information continues to fuel anxiety and uncertainty among trained teachers who are awaiting posting.

The Association further noted that the delays have wider implications for the education sector, particularly at the basic school level. While qualified teachers remain unemployed, many schools especially those in rural and underserved communities are struggling with persistent teacher shortages.

TTAG stressed that timely communication and structured planning are critical to ensuring stability and efficiency within Ghana’s education system.

As part of its demands, the Association urged the government to publicly communicate a recruitment and posting timeline to all stakeholders on or before January 8, 2026.

“TTAG wishes to state unequivocally that should the Government fail to provide the requested timeline by the specified date, we will have no alternative but to advise ourselves to demand clarity and action on this critical matter affecting the future of education in Ghana,” the statement said.

TTAG reaffirmed its commitment to constructive engagement with the government and other stakeholders, expressing hope that authorities will recognise the urgency of the issue and take the necessary steps to conclude the recruitment process in the interest of trained teachers and the nation’s education system.
