Teacher sentenced to five years in prison for stealing GH¢69k from GCB
Mr. Sampson Twi, a 56-year-old teacher, was found guilty of stealing GH¢ 69,209.34 from the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) in Wenchi, Bono region, and received a five-year prison sentence.
Inspector Pamporo Kunsoyiri presented the case’s facts before the Wenchi Magistrate court, which was chaired by Mr. Kojo Frimpong Manso, a relieving magistrate. The convict works as a teacher at Buoku Methodist Junior High School (JHS), located in the Bono section of the Wenchi Municipality.
According to the prosecutor, the prisoner requested an overdraft from the Wenchi branch of the bank in the amount of GH¢ 600.00. The bank’s management approved the request, but they were unaware that the prisoner intended to steal from the institution.

The prosecutor went on to say that the prisoner withdrew GH¢ 9,000 on December 1, 2021, by taking advantage of the inadequate electronic money system. The prisoner took out GH¢ 10,000 on December 2, 2021, and GH¢ 20,209.34 on December 8, 2021, totaling GH¢ 69,209.34 from the bank.
The bank later discovered the theft, and Mr. Osei Boateng, the branch manager, then reported the offender to the police. Two brand-new Android phones and a brand-new motorbike with the registration number M-21-BA-4398 were found by the police during their investigation. Additionally, GH¢ 46,660 was taken out of his phone.
After entering a guilty plea to the accusations brought against him, Mr. Twi received his punishment. The phones and the motorbike were ordered to be sold by the court in order to pay off the debt.
