Teacher Sentenced to 18 Years in Prison for defiling Student in Attakrom
The Tarkwa Circuit Court has sentenced a teacher found guilty of defiling his student in Attakrom, Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality, to eighteen years of hard labour. The prisoner, Benjamin Hanson, first entered a not guilty plea. But following a thorough trial, he was found guilty and given the appropriate punishment.
Chief of Police The prosecutor, Juliana Essel-Dadzie, told the court chaired by Mrs. Hathia Ama Manu that the victim’s mother is the complainant, and that both parties were residents of Nsuaem. Hanson was the victim’s teacher. The 13-year-old victim was a junior high school student in Nsuaem who was taught career technology and computing by the teacher.

The victim paid Hanson a visit at his Attakrom residence on Sunday, March 12, 2023, and he engaged in s*xual relations with her there. Without telling anyone, the sufferer headed home. When the victim paid another visit on Friday, March 31, 2023, someone who knew the victim’s sister noticed them together and told her about Hanson’s improper contact with the victim. The victim admitted to the affair when her parents questioned her.
The victim’s parents subsequently filed a formal complaint against Hanson and reported him to the Nsuaem police. Hanson acknowledged having intercourse with the victim during the investigation, saying she accepted his proposal of love. The defendant was then arraigned and charged with the crime of defiling a minor under the age of sixteen.
