SHS student imprisoned for defiling pupil in class six

Seth Nayo, a 23-year-old Senior High School (SHS) form two student, was found guilty of defiling a 13-year-old Class Six student and was given a seven-year prison sentence with hard labor.

When Nayo went before the Jasikan Magistrate Court presided over by Mr. Alfred Kwabena Asiedu, he entered a plea of guilty to the charge and was later found guilty.

The complainant was the victim’s legal guardian, according to the prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Seth Vincent Kpodo.

On July 10, 2023, at around 1200 hours, he said the victim was sound asleep in her room by herself when she suddenly felt someone covering her mouth, gripping her neck, and engaging in sexual activity.

He claimed that once the victim was abandoned, the convict fled. The victim went and told a co-tenant, who was a witness in the case, according to ASP Kpodo.

He claimed that the witness quickly let the complainant know how the victim had told her about the incident earlier.

According to ASP Kpodo, the complainant filed a police report with the Jasikan Police and was given a medical form to take the victim to the hospital for a checkup. He claimed that the victim’s report supported her account.

In imposing the accused’s sentence, the judge noted that the student was a first-time offender and as such deserved the least severe penalty possible to prevent future offenders among young people.
