SHS Headmasters and Teachers Urged: Protect Our Female Learners

A passionate call has been made to male teachers across Ghana to safeguard female learners and stop the exploitation of young girls in schools.
In a message titled “SHS Headmasters and Teachers: Protect Our Female Learners,” Ɔpanyin Wireko, a concerned teacher from Higher Life Academy (HLA), Ashaley Botwe Pentecost-Down, cautioned against inappropriate relationships between male teachers and their female students.
According to him, many girls admire their teachers and sometimes develop crushes, but such admiration must never be mistaken for consent. “Their smiles are not invitations, and their boldness is not maturity. They are still children—vulnerable and figuring out their emotions,” he stressed.
Ɔpanyin Wireko warned that teachers who cross professional boundaries cause lasting harm, destroying girls’ confidence, jeopardizing their future, and leaving them with lifelong trauma. “Many girls today are walking around broken, hiding pain, and blaming themselves because of teachers who exploited them,” he lamented.

He further noted that when female students appear bold enough to approach teachers, it is often because those teachers have already lowered boundaries through suggestive signals. “Weak boundaries are an invitation to destruction. Don’t justify your actions with excuses. Be different. Protect her. Guard your role. Be disciplined,” he advised.
Calling for discipline and responsibility, Ɔpanyin Wireko reminded educators that teaching is not only about imparting knowledge but also about safeguarding the dignity and future of students. “You’re not just teaching a subject—you’re shaping a soul. Let the classroom be a place of growth, not trauma,” he emphasized.
The concerned teacher concluded his message with a strong appeal that resonates beyond the classroom:
- Leave the girl child alone!
- Let her grow!
- Let her breathe!
- Let her be safe!
His call adds to the growing public concern about safeguarding measures in schools and the urgent need for teachers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
