SDA Church Honors 20 Girls for Preserving Their Virginity in Ghana

The Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) in Ghana has celebrated 20 young girls for their commitment to preserving their virginity. The girls, aged between 13 and 16, were honored during a Thanksgiving service held over the weekend. As part of the recognition, they received undisclosed sums of money to support their upkeep.

Mrs. Nana Amponsah Poku, the Wenchi West District Coordinator of the Young Adventist Women Ministries, commended the girls for their steadfastness and encouraged them to maintain their virtue until marriage. Addressing the congregation, she emphasized the importance of self-worth and the need for young women to make wise choices in their lives.

“God created you uniquely beautiful, and you must not allow anybody to lure and break your virginity until you marry,” she advised the girls. She further urged them to be cautious in choosing their friends, particularly in the year ahead.

Reflecting on cultural practices, Mrs. Poku highlighted the value of traditional rites like Bragoro and Dipo, which historically played significant roles in preserving virginity and reducing teenage pregnancies. She lamented that the decline in such practices had contributed to challenges affecting the growth and development of young girls and women.

The initiative by the SDA Church aims to encourage moral values and inspire young girls to uphold principles that safeguard their future. Mrs. Poku’s address reiterated the church’s commitment to promoting virtues that foster responsible living among the youth.

This event adds to ongoing efforts by various religious and community groups in Ghana to address issues such as teenage pregnancy, peer pressure, and moral decadence among young people. The SDA Church’s recognition serves as a reminder of the role of faith-based organizations in shaping societal values and supporting the development of the younger generation.
