Outrage as 8-Year-Old Girl Faces Possible Amputation After Alleged Abuse at Dodowa School

A disturbing video showing an eight-year-old girl writhing in severe pain has sparked widespread public outrage on social media, with many calling for justice and accountability within Ghana’s basic school system.

The victim, identified as Jalila Abdul Jalil, is reportedly at risk of having her leg amputated after an alleged incident involving the house mistress of St. Olives Grammar School in Dodowa.

According to reports, the house mistress allegedly submerged Jalila’s leg in hot water as a form of treatment for a fungal infection, resulting in serious complications. The young girl’s cries and visible distress in the viral video have drawn strong condemnation from parents, education stakeholders, and child rights advocates.

Sources close to the incident claim that the fungal infection developed after school authorities compelled pupils to wear the same pair of socks for an extended period, a practice that many health experts warn can lead to infections, especially among young children.

The alleged use of hot water as treatment has been widely criticised as dangerous and unprofessional, with medical experts stressing that such actions can worsen infections and cause severe burns, particularly in children.

Social media users have since demanded an immediate investigation into the matter, calling on the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Ministry of Education, and child protection agencies to take swift action against those responsible.

Many parents have also raised concerns about the welfare and safety of pupils in boarding and day schools, urging school authorities to prioritise proper healthcare protocols and child protection policies.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the management of St. Olives Grammar School or the Ghana Education Service regarding the incident.

The case has once again ignited national conversations about child abuse in schools, the lack of basic healthcare knowledge among some school staff, and the urgent need for stricter enforcement of child protection standards in educational institutions.
