New Nation School Celebrates 20 Years of Excellence in Education

The management, staff, and students of New Nation School (NNS), a prestigious international institution located in the Adentan Municipality, came together over the weekend to mark 20 years of exceptional service in education.

The school hosted a grand durbar to climax a week-long celebration of its two-decade journey, which brought together distinguished guests from academia, traditional authorities, religious heads, political figures, parents, staff, and students, both past and present.

Founded by Dr. John Kpikpi and Mrs. Kpikpi, New Nation School has grown significantly since its inception. Speaking at the event, Dr. Kpikpi recounted the school’s humble beginnings: “We started with just 34 students and seven classrooms. Today, 20 years later, our student population has soared to over 1,284, and we now boast 52 classrooms.”

The school follows the Cambridge International Education (CIE) curriculum and has expanded its academic offerings into four departments: Nursery, Primary, Lower Secondary, and Upper Secondary. Plans are also underway to establish a full-fledged university, adding to its existing campus.

In an interview on the sidelines of the event, Dr. Kpikpi expressed concerns over the lack of governmental support for private educational institutions in Ghana. He noted that despite their critical role in providing quality education to Ghanaian children, private schools face significant challenges due to heavy taxation.

“We don’t receive any form of assistance from the government, although we are formidable partners in the education sector. All we get from the government are huge taxes instead of support,” Dr. Kpikpi remarked. He further called on the government to consider tax reliefs for private educational institutions, drawing comparisons to countries where private schools benefit from subsidies, grants, and tax holidays.

Addressing concerns over high fees in international schools, Dr. Kpikpi assured parents that NNS remains committed to providing affordable education. “Our fees are modest compared to others running international programs. Our mission is to offer the best quality and holistic education to children of every tribe and nation, in an environment of faith, hope, and love,” he emphasized.

To support its mission of inclusivity, NNS has implemented a flexible fee-paying structure, allowing parents from diverse backgrounds to enroll their children. “We want every child, regardless of their background, to receive the best quality education. Our fee structure reflects that commitment,” Dr. Kpikpi reiterated.

The 20th anniversary celebration of New Nation School served as a testament to the school’s growth and unwavering dedication to providing quality education. As the institution looks forward to the future, it aims to continue expanding its impact, with the planned establishment of a university marking the next chapter in its journey.
