How to Check If Someone Is Spying on Your Computer

Computer security has become more important than ever with the rise in online surveillance and unauthorized access. If you notice your system running unusually slow, unfamiliar programs opening on their own, or strange user logins appearing, it could mean someone is spying on your device. To stay safe, here’s a simple method to check and remove suspicious user accounts on a Windows computer.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Press Windows Key + R
This will open the Run dialog box; a quick command window used to access system tools.

2. Type “netplwiz” and press Enter
The “netplwiz” command opens the User Accounts settings panel, which lists all user profiles that have access to your computer.

3. Review the Accounts Listed
Check through the list carefully. You should only see accounts that you recognize such as your own and any legitimate administrator or family member accounts.

If you notice an unknown account or username you don’t recognize, that could be a sign that someone has created an unauthorized profile on your device.

4. Select the Unknown Account and Click “Remove”
Highlight the suspicious account, then click on the “Remove” button to delete it from your system. This prevents the unknown user from logging in or accessing your files.

Additional Tips for Security

  • Change your passwords immediately, especially your Windows login and email passwords.
  • Install reliable antivirus software and run a full system scan.
  • Keep your operating system updated to close security loopholes.
  • Avoid using public Wi-Fi without a VPN, as it can expose your computer to hackers.

By following these steps, you can safeguard your computer from unwanted access and ensure that your private data remains secure.

Stay alert, cybersecurity begins with awareness.
