How to activate two-Step verification on WhatsApp to avoid being hacked

WhatsApp Messenger is an internationally available freeware, cross-platform centralized instant messaging (IM) and voice-over-IP (VoIP) service owned by American company Meta Platform formerly known as Facebook. WhatsApp was founded by Jan Koum and Brian Acton who had previously spent 20 years combined at Yahoo. WhatsApp joined Facebook in 2014, but continues to operate as a separate app with a laser focus on building a messaging service that works fast and reliably anywhere in the world.

It allows users to send text and voice messages, make voice and video calls, and share images, documents, user names locations, and other content. WhatsApp’s client application runs on mobile devices, and can be accessed from computers as WhatsApp web. The service requires a cellular mobile telephone number to sign up. In January 2018, WhatsApp released a standalone business app called WhatsApp Business which can communicate with the standard WhatsApp client.

It has been useful to its users worldwide in helping them to contract business in the comfort of their homes.

But however, some persons have resorted to hacking it in order to have access to people private and important messages. WhatsApp has a two-step verification settings which prevent hackers or scammers from having hacking one’s account or having access to one’s useful or important messages. You have the option to enable or disable this feature, change the pin or update the email address associated with the two-step verification.

One can activate the two-step verification settings by following the steps below;

1.Open WhatsApp settings

2.Tap account >Two-step verification >enable

3.Enter a six-digit pin of your choice and confirm it

4.Provide an email address you can access, or tap skip if you don’t want to add any email address. I strongly recommend an email address because it helps to safe guard your account.

5.Tap next

6.Confirm the email address and press save to get it done

If you don’t add an email address and you forget to your pin, you will have to wait for seven (7) days before you can reset your PIN.
